How to get there
The ballet students of BlackBox Studios present the Spring Recital 2026. The recital's first act will be a mixed bill featuring various repertoire and original ballet and modern works choreographed on the students. There will then be an intermission, followed by a reimagined, shortened version of the classic ballet Le Corsaire. Le Corsaire, which translates to Pirate, is a ballet based on a poem by Lord Byron, which the choreographer Joseph Mazilier adapted into a ballet in Paris in 1856. The ballet was later readapted by Marius Petipa several times between 1863 to 1899 St. Petersburg, Russia. The music was composed predominantly with music by Adolphe Adam and Riccardo Drigo. This very old three-act ballet has been preserved and restaged throughout its history. BlackBox Studios' version pays homage to the historic ballet, but changes the narrative by centering it on a group of pirates encountering sea creatures—including jellyfish, crabs, fish, and mermaids—while searching for treasure. Enjoy the show!
