How to get there
George Kahumoku Jr., affectionately known as Hawaiʻi’s “Renaissance Man,” is a four-time Grammy Award-winning slack key guitarist, songwriter, storyteller, visual artist, farmer, and cultural practitioner. Born and raised in the upcountry community of Kula on Maui, George’s music and storytelling reflect the rich traditions, values, and spirit of old Hawaiʻi.
A master of kī hō‘alu (Hawaiian slack key guitar), George has dedicated his life to preserving and perpetuating Hawaiian culture through performances, workshops, educational programs, and his acclaimed weekly Slack Key Show on Maui. His contributions to Hawaiian music have earned him multiple Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards and four Grammy Awards, helping bring Hawaiian slack key guitar to audiences around the world.
Known for his warmth, humor, and genuine aloha, George continues to inspire audiences worldwide while mentoring future generations of Hawaiian musicians and cultural practitioners.
We are honored and proud to welcome George Kahumoku Jr. to Hayward and the Douglas Morrison Theatre. His appearance is a rare opportunity for Bay Area audiences to experience one of Hawaiʻi’s most celebrated cultural ambassadors and master musicians in an intimate concert setting.
