After a near sold-out show at Yoshi’s last month, Patrick Landeza has decided to bring the boys out once again for a special birthday celebration concert. June 23rd marks Patrick’s actual birthday as he returns home to Hayward’s Douglas Morrison Theatre for an unforgettable evening of music, family, and aloha. Proceeds from the evening will help benefit the HARD Foundation and its community programs.
Patrick Landeza & Sons features Justin Firmeza on Hawaiian steel guitar and keyboards alongside Danny Landeza on bass guitar, continuing a powerful family tradition on stage. Together, they blend Hawaiian music, jazz influences, storytelling, and island-style improvisation into a heartfelt and engaging live experience.
A Native Hawaiian born and raised on the mainland, Patrick’s musical journey began with the cherished songs passed down by his mother, Frances Kawaipūloʻu Kuakini O’Sullivan Landeza, who grew up in Hoʻolehua, Moloka‘i. Those songs became his cultural compass, guiding him toward the rich tradition of kī hō‘alu (Hawaiian slack key guitar). Patrick was fortunate to study and connect with legendary masters including Cyril Pahinui, Raymond Kāne, George Kuo, and Dennis Kamakahi, whose mentorship helped shape his deeply rooted and expressive style.
Today, Patrick Landeza is recognized as one of Hawaiian music’s leading ambassadors. A two-time Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award recipient (Hawai‘i’s equivalent of the GRAMMY Awards), he holds the distinction of being the first artist born and raised on the mainland to receive this honor. Beyond the stage, Patrick is also an author, educator, producer, and cultural practitioner dedicated to preserving and perpetuating Hawaiian music and values for future generations.
Patrick Landeza & Sons represents that living legacy. Performing alongside his son Danny and longtime collaborator Justin Firmeza, Patrick shares both traditional slack key classics and original compositions while honoring the music entrusted to him by family and mentors alike.
This special birthday performance promises an evening of heartfelt music, laughter, family connection, and the enduring spirit of aloha.
